Each section of the toolkit explores the concept of pilgrimage from different angles, offering creative reflection on how churches might engage with our communities. With pilgrimage being something which is both missional and deeply rooted in discipleship, each chapter includes practical advice and ideas, as well as questions to prompt conversation locally about what this might look like to you in your church.
This toolkit is not an encouragement to try to do everything, but rather an invitation to explore what opportunities there might be in your church context. You might choose to focus on chapters which feel more relevant or attractive to your churches, or on sections which encourage you to try something new. It might be that you reflect on these as a leadership team, a PCC, or as a whole church community. At the end of the toolkit, the section ‘what next?’ provides a helpful platform for discussion, with clear questions to discuss as a group, and reflect on what God might be calling you to, as we all seek this pilgrimPilgrim 1. In the New Testament and Christian thought, someone engaged in the Christian journey through life towards heaven. 2. Someone who journeys to holy places (such as biblical sites or shrines of the saints) to seek God's help, to give thanks, or as an act of penance path.
